Herbal Remedies (Flu Edition)

Chinese Herbal RemediesThere is no cure for the cold or the flu, there are, however, various herbal remedies that can help relieve symptoms so you feel better faster. It may be difficult to tell the difference between the cold and flu. Some herbal remedies are good for cold or flu symptoms.

There are many cold remedies and using herbs. These herbs help to relax muscles, calm nerves, and hasten the healing process by helping the immune system to function more effectively.

The Psyllium
The remedy for flu Boneset is not only very good for relieving the symptoms of flu, can be used to bring relief to those who suffer from back pain and headaches as well.

The remedy includes 1 tablespoon each of boneset, skullcap and white yarrow and 1 teaspoon of psyllium seed. You also need the syrup of honey or corn and distilled water. Put the boneset, skullcap and white yarrow in a pint of water. Simmer for 30 minutes and then filtered. Add 1 tablespoon of this liquid to 1 teaspoon of psyllium seed added to a cup of boiling water. You can sweeten with corn syrup. This drink should be consumed within 30 minutes of doing so.

Echinacea
Echinacea is a traditional Chinese remedy for cold and flu. Echinacea stimulates the immune system. It is recommended by herbalist to take 3 to 5 ml of dye powder or if you use root, take 300 mg 3 times daily.

The elderberry
The elderberry can also benefit those suffering from flu. This herb helps to keep the viruses that cause influenza spread to the respiratory tract. If allowed to spread to the respiratory tract, this is when patients become more seriously ill. You can make a herb tea by steeping 3 to 5 g of dried flowers in a cup of boiling water (10 to 15 minutes). Drink a cup of tea sau’co berry-flower 3 times daily until symptoms are the flu.

The flower of the elderberry is safe to take and side effects are rare. Security for use in children, pregnant women and nursing or suffering from severe liver disease or kidney disease has not yet been determined.

Astragalus root
Astragalus root has been used in China for thousands of years to help stimulate the immune system against influenza and other viruses. It is recommended to take 500 milligrams of astragalus 4 times daily until symptoms go. Then take one capsule twice a day for another week to prevent the symptoms from returning.

Garlic
Garlic is especially helpful in fighting this disease that make you wonder if what you have is a cold or flu. Garlic stimulates the immune system fight off the symptoms of any virus and is known to be a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It can be effective against any cold virus and scientists have been fighting the flu virus in test tubes. Doctors recommend that the person making several cloves of raw garlic every day that you have the infection and products containing garlic is also good such as garlic bread or hot toast garlic.

It is always important to consult a medical herbalist or Chinese medicine to take herbal remedies to be sure the dosage and to prevent the occurrence of side effects of other medications you can take.
